More Than 200 NCC Staff For Redeployment In Massive Shakeup
TECH DIGEST – Massive redeployment looms at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as more than two hundred (200) staff are expected to be moved to different offices, an impeccable source has told TechEconomy.ng.
The source who pleaded to remain anonymous, told our correspondent that the Commission under the leadership of the Executive Vice Chairman, Professor Umar Danbatta, has made moves to ensure square pegs are put in square holes for effective implementation of the (new) Strategic Management Plan (SMP) 2020-2024 which was unveiled by NCC last year.
Recall that Prof. Danbatta said that the SMP will be a pedestal to drive the implementation of the Federal Government’s digital economy vision.
According to the Executive Vice Chairman, the SMP is the fulcrum that will aid the NCC in driving its telecom regulatory mandate in the fast evolving telecoms industry, in the next five years.
He said it will serve as a roadmap for the future of the Nigerian telecoms sector, taking into consideration the current and emerging trends in the industry and the numerous expectations of the diverse Stakeholders.

“The Federal Government’s economic diversification plans are focused on a robust digital economy, which will improve employment generation, as well as encourage innovation. This was prime in our minds during the formulation of the SMP. We have invested great time and effort in ensuring that this document is pragmatic, and I am very confident and excited in its completeness to successfully guide the Commission in achieving the set objectives. We are committed to the implementation of this SMP,” the EVC said at the launch.
Back to the redeployment; our Source at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, said “The management of the NCC led by Prof. Danbatta has seen the potentials in the SMP and how telecoms can assist further in repositioning the nation’s economy. “So, the redeployment will soon become a reality because management wants square pegs in the square holes to drive this vision”.
“I believe the exercise will be in line with the professional and academic qualifications of the staff”, she said.
The Source added that the redeployment exercise was delayed due to the promotion exercise for staff in the directorate cadre who wrote their examinations in the first quarter of this year (2021).
“I strongly believe that once the list of successful staff in the promotion exercise to the Directorate cadre is released, the redeployment will follow almost immediately”.
Also recall that in an effort to consolidate the gains made in the telecommunications sector in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, President Muhammadu Buhari, on June 5, 2020 approved the reappointment of Professor Umar Garba Danbatta as the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission.
Subsequently, the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on July 12, 2021 confirmed Prof. Garba Danbatta’s for another five-year term, after the Screening Committee lauded his 5-year scorecard.
