PRNigeria has officially commenced the Abuja edition of its Young Communication Fellowship, following successful programmes in Kano and Ilorin two months ago.
The initiative aims to empower young Nigerians in media, public relations, and civic communication with the knowledge and skills required to navigate today’s fast-changing communication landscape.
The fellowship, themed, “Truth, Trust, and Technology: The Role of Media, Security, and Strategic Communication for National Stability,” is designed not only to strengthen participants’ technical expertise but also to cultivate integrity, responsibility, and national consciousness.
At the opening ceremony, Alhaji Yushau Shuaib, MD/CEO of Image Merchants Promotion (IMPR) and Publisher of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, described the Abuja programme as a consolidation of lessons from previous editions.
“This fellowship is about more than just skills; it is about shaping principled communicators who can serve the nation responsibly,” Shuaib said.
“It is our way of investing in the next generation of Nigerian storytellers, strategists, and civic advocates.”
He recalled the overwhelming response to the programme since its inception: “Within just two days of opening applications, we received 1,414 entries for this year’s edition. The enthusiasm shows that young Nigerians are eager to build credible and impactful communication careers.”
Shuaib also highlighted the fellowship’s adaptation to global trends in media and technology.
“We are integrating tools like artificial intelligence and machine learning because communication is rapidly shifting from traditional print to digital, audiovisual, and data-driven formats. Our participants must be equipped to lead in this new reality.”
The Abuja cohort brings together emerging journalists, PR professionals, digital media creatives, and civic communicators for an intensive two-week training on various aspects of media and PR communication.
The programme covers strategic communication, fact-checking, crisis messaging, digital storytelling, analytics, and ethics in the age of algorithms.
By nurturing the next generation of communicators, PRNigeria aims to promote truth, foster public trust, and strengthen national stability, ensuring that young professionals are prepared to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s media and communication landscape.
