Google’s global Year in Search 2025 report shows that AI-related topics dominated public curiosity, with “Gemini,” the company’s flagship chatbot, ranking as the year’s top trending search worldwide. It was followed by “India vs England” and U.S. political figure “Charlie Kirk.”
The report highlights trending queries—topics that saw significant year-on-year surges rather than the overall most common searches. AI made several appearances on the list, with DeepSeek ranking seventh among global trending searches.
In the news category, “Charlie Kirk assassination” topped global queries, followed by “Iran” and “US Government Shutdown.” For entertainment, “Anora” was the highest-trending movie, while its lead actor Mikey Madison topped the trending actor list. Sports searches were led by the “FIFA Club World Cup,” with Paris Saint-Germain F.C. emerging as the top trending team.
Across lifestyle categories, hot honey led food searches, “The Charlie Kirk Show” was the top trending podcast, and Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You was the most searched book of the year.
