Airtel Africa and Vodacom Group have signed an infrastructure-sharing agreement covering Mozambique, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, aimed at accelerating high-speed internet rollout while cutting costs.

Pending regulatory approval, the deal will see both telecom operators share fibre networks and tower sites to expand digital access, especially in underserved areas.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub called the move a “proactive step” toward connecting 260 million customers by 2030, while Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar said collaboration was now a necessity to deliver connectivity “even in the remotest locations.”

The partnership is expected to improve network performance, extend coverage for mobile and fixed broadband, support 4G and 5G deployment, and broaden access to digital and financial services across the three markets.
