ALTON Commence Harmonisation of Short Codes Across all Nigerian Networks
TECHDIGEST: The Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced the start of the harmonisation of short codes across all networks in Nigeria. The initiative is in line with a regulatory modernisation program by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). ALTON’s Chairman, Gbenga Adebayo, and Head of Operations, Gbolahan Awonuga, jointly signed the statement issued in Lagos.
This harmonisation process will create uniformity in shortcodes utilised by customers across all networks. For example, the code for recharging a line can be used across all mobile networks for the same purpose. Individual telco shortcodes and harmonised shortcodes will run concurrently for one year, after which the old codes will become inactive.
