Apple to Develop Smart Doorbell Camera with Face ID for 2025 Release
Apple is reportedly working on a new smart doorbell camera that will utilize Face ID technology to unlock doors, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into the smart home market.
According to Bloomberg, the device could be launched by the end of 2025, introducing Apple’s signature biometric security system to residential entryways.
The smart doorbell camera is expected to function similarly to the Face ID feature on iPhones, automatically unlocking the door upon detecting the face of a registered resident. This hands-free approach aims to provide both convenience and enhanced security for homeowners.
Apple’s Secure Enclave chip will be embedded in the device, ensuring that Face ID data is processed and stored separately from the rest of the hardware, reinforcing user privacy.
The camera is anticipated to integrate seamlessly with existing HomeKit-compatible smart locks, simplifying the process for users to incorporate the device into their current smart home setups. Apple may also collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to offer a comprehensive security solution at launch.
This initiative is part of Apple’s broader strategy to solidify its presence in the smart home space.
Bloomberg’s report highlights additional products in development, including a new security camera slated for release in 2026 and various smart displays.
Among these displays could be an iPad-like device capable of attaching magnetically to walls or speaker bases, alongside a more advanced model featuring a robotic arm.
Apple is also developing a new Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, codenamed “Proxima,” which is expected to debut in devices like the HomePod Mini and Apple TV by 2025. This chip aims to enhance connectivity and performance across Apple’s smart home ecosystem.
With these advancements, Apple is positioning itself as a leading player in the evolving smart home market, offering integrated solutions that prioritize user convenience, security, and privacy.
