Apple is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence-powered wearable device as competition heats up in the emerging AI hardware market.
According to a report by The Information, the device is expected to be a pin that users can attach to their clothing and would feature two cameras and three microphones. The wearable is described as a thin, flat, circular disc with an aluminium-and-glass design, roughly the size of an AirTag but slightly thicker.
The report said the device could include a physical button, a speaker, and a charging strip similar to those found on fitness trackers. It is also expected to support photo and video capture through its dual-camera setup, which would include both standard and wide-angle lenses.
If launched, the product would mark Apple’s entry into the AI wearable category, following growing interest in standalone AI hardware. The report comes shortly after OpenAI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Chris Lehane, said the company plans to announce its first AI hardware device in the second half of the year, with other reports suggesting it may take the form of earbuds.
Apple is said to be considering accelerating development of the pin, with a possible release as early as 2027 and an initial production target of up to 20 million units. Apple has not publicly commented on the report.
Market demand for AI wearables remains uncertain. Humane AI, a startup founded by former Apple employees, previously launched a similar AI pin but shut down operations within two years following poor consumer reception.
