In a presentation titled, “Streamlining Newsroom Efficiency with Google Workspace,” Dr. Ali Musa emphasized that modern-day journalists need to be equipped with Information Technology Communication, ICT, skills that will make them adapt to their ever-evolving media landscape.

“Google Calendar and Tasks can be used to synchronize schedules and tasks, making it easier to meet deadlines and manage appointments, while Google Meet facilitates crystal-clear video conferencing, fostering effective communication within the newsroom”, he said.
Dr. Musa also acknowledged the potential of AI in assisting journalists, emphasizing its ability to automate mundane tasks and provide valuable insights.
“By embracing AI and utilizing its tools strategically, journalists can streamline their workflow, enhance efficiency, and ultimately deliver high-quality news content to their audiences,” he said.
He went on to list other ways AI can benefit journalists, including multi-media content creation for engaging visuals and graphics.
“Also, there are tools that can be deployed for fact-checking and storytelling to verify information and create compelling narratives,” said Dr. Musa.
The BUK don, however, cautioned that AI is not without its limitations while stressing the importance of deploying AI responsibly and with a thorough checking.
