Nigerian Banks, Cybersafe Collaborate to Tackle Cyber Frauds
TECHDIGEST – Nigerian banks, in partnership with the Committee of Chief Information Security Officers of Nigerian Financial Institutions (CCISONFI), have introduced a new initiative aimed at combating the escalating threat of financial scams and cyber frauds within the country.
This campaign, titled ‘NoGoFall Maga, Confam am Again’, is a joint effort involving the Cybersafe Foundation and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Its primary objective is to educate Nigerians about the various tactics used by fraudsters and cyber criminals, empowering them to safeguard against potential attacks.Among the tactics highlighted are fraudulent phone calls from fake bank representatives requesting One-Time Passwords (OTPs) and credit card information.

CCISONFI emphasized that genuine banks will never ask customers for their ATM PINs or card numbers, and many Nigerians have fallen victim due to lack of awareness.In response to this, the enlightening campaign will be disseminated across Nigerian broadcast stations and various social media platforms.
Mr. Festus Amede, Chairman of CCISONFI, explained that the initiative seeks to enhance public awareness of cybersecurity, ultimately leading to a reduction in cybercrime and financial fraud.
Dr. Peter Obadare, Chairman of Cybersafe Foundation, added that the campaign’s purpose is to establish a “human firewall” in conjunction with the security measures implemented by financial institutions. He emphasized the importance of investing in cybersecurity intelligence for the populace and building a strong defense against cybercriminals.
The campaign’s target is to reach over 40 million bank customers within the first two years of its launch, delivering awareness content and messages in major Nigerian languages, including Pidgin English. This proactive approach aims to restore trust and confidence in the financial system, ensuring the continued growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
