Bolt has surged ahead of rivals Uber and inDrive to become Nigeria’s most downloaded mobility app, according to new data from Sensor Tower, a digital intelligence firm.

The report places Bolt at the top of the country’s travel and mobility category, reinforcing its position as the preferred choice in one of Africa’s most competitive transport markets.

Since launching in Lagos in 2016 under the name Taxify, the company has expanded operations to 33 cities across Nigeria. The ranking also makes Nigeria one of 23 countries where Bolt leads in app downloads.

Bolt Nigeria’s General Manager, Osi Oguah, said the milestone reflects growing user trust in the platform.
“We’re pleased that Nigerians are enjoying Bolt, but we’ve still got room to grow further and faster. We’re going to keep accelerating and expanding into more cities, launching new services where possible, and enhancing the Bolt app with new features to deliver the best experience possible,” he said.

The company, which serves over 200 million customers across 50 countries, has introduced new tools to strengthen its appeal. Its latest “Family Profile” feature allows one user to manage and pay for rides for up to nine others from a single account, a move aimed at boosting convenience and safety.

Bolt’s growth strategy in Nigeria continues to focus on affordability, accessibility, and innovation, particularly in underserved areas. Globally, the firm offers ride-hailing, scooter and e-bike rentals, and car rental services in more than 600 cities.
