ChatGPT App Goes Offline, Leaving Users Stranded
Users of the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT were left without access to the app’s services on Tuesday, as the service experienced a widespread outage.
The outage began in the early afternoon, with users reporting that they were unable to access the app or receive responses to their prompts. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, acknowledged the issue on their status page, citing “high error rates” for their Embeddings API.
“We are currently experiencing high error rates for the Embeddings API. We are investigating and will send an update as soon as possible.
“We have identified the root cause of this issue and are currently working to implement a fix,” the company stated.
The outage comes as ChatGPT has become increasingly popular, with millions of users relying on the app for a variety of tasks, including writing, coding, and research. The outage left many users frustrated and unable to complete their work.
OpenAI did not immediately provide an estimate for when service would be restored.
This is not the first time that ChatGPT has experienced an outage. In June, the app was down for several hours due to a technical issue.
The outage highlights the growing reliance on AI-powered services and the potential disruption that can occur when these services go down.
OpenAI has not yet released a statement on the cause of the outage or when service is expected to be restored.
