Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has announced new support from China Industrial Bank for the Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project (NUCAP), an initiative aimed at extending connectivity to more than 20 million Nigerians in underserved communities.

Tijani disclosed the development following a meeting with a delegation from the bank led by Peng Shuang.

According to the minister, NUCAP will involve the deployment of 3,700 telecommunications towers across Nigeria, targeting unserved and underserved areas, particularly rural and riverine communities lacking reliable network access.

He revealed that China Industrial Bank has committed to supporting the delivery of at least 1,000 telecom tower sites before the end of the year.

Tijani said the project would play a key role in expanding digital inclusion, creating economic opportunities, and improving access to communication services nationwide.

“NUCAP is a wholly green network of modern telecommunications towers that will extend connectivity to these previously unconnected communities,” he stated.

The minister added that the bank’s involvement represents its first investment in Nigeria and reflects growing international confidence in the country’s digital economy agenda.
