Elon Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, has declared a bold move to suspend all accounts engaged in engagement farming on the social media platform. This decision comes as the billionaire wrestles with the persistent issue of bots and fake accounts infiltrating the platform.
Engagement farming, a practice where users post generic or provocative content to elicit likes and replies, has been rampant on X, particularly to exploit the content creator monetization program. Musk’s announcement aims to combat this manipulative behavior, which distorts the platform’s organic flow of information and undermines genuine voices.
“Any accounts doing engagement farming will be suspended and traced to source,” Musk affirmed in a tweet on Friday”.

In response to Musk’s warning, X users expressed relief and support for the crackdown. @rawsalerts lamented the inundation of irrelevant content, stating, “Finally, thank God! I’m so tired of seeing clickbait pages and those who put out fake news solely for engagement farming.”
Similarly, @BillyM2K advocated for stringent actions against those spreading misinformation for profit, suggesting that accounts with a history of misleading content should be demonetized.
