A German court has ruled that Google abused its dominant position in the price comparison market and must pay €572 million ($665.6 million) in damages to two comparison platforms, Reuters reported on Friday.
Idealo will receive about €465 million, while Producto will receive €107 million. Idealo had originally sought €3.3 billion, arguing that Google favored its own shopping comparison service in search results — conduct the EU previously ruled illegal in 2024 and fined Google $2.7 billion.
Idealo said it plans to appeal and will continue to pursue the full amount. Google said it will also appeal, arguing that changes made in 2017 have increased competition and allowed more comparison sites to participate in shopping ads.
The ruling comes as the EU continues to scrutinize Google’s search and advertising business. The company was recently fined €2.95 billion for allegedly favoring its own ad services.
