Google Backs 15 African Startups in AI-Powered Accelerator Programme

Google has unveiled 15 startups selected for its ninth cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, with artificial intelligence (AI) at the heart of their innovations. The selected ventures span seven African countries, including six startups from Nigeria.

These startups are tackling challenges across fintech, agritech, healthtech, and logistics. They were chosen from a competitive pool of 1,500 applicants, reflecting the continent’s booming tech talent.

“We’re proud to support founders building inclusive, AI-driven solutions that address real needs,” said Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa at Google.

The three-month programme, running until August 22, offers mentorship from Google engineers, up to $350,000 in cloud credits, and expert support in scaling, product development, and AI adoption. Participants also gain access to a global investor and partner network.

Nigerian startups selected include:

  • E-doc Online – Simplifies compliance checks using real-time bank data.

  • GoNomad – Enables African firms to send invoices and transact globally.

  • Middleman – Helps importers pay and source goods from China efficiently.

  • Myltura – Provides remote healthcare services and health data management.

  • Pastel – Delivers enterprise-grade AI tools, including fraud detection.

Google has supported 153 startups across 17 African countries since the program’s 2018 inception. These startups have collectively raised over $300 million and created more than 3,500 jobs, with $5 million contributed by Google in equity-free funding and tools.
