Google has expanded access to its latest AI-powered image generation tool to users in Nigeria, enabling them to create images directly within Google Search and Google Lens by describing what they want to see.

The feature is powered by Google’s new image model, Nano Banana 2, and is accessible through the Google App or mobile browser.

In a statement, Google said the rollout is part of efforts to broaden access to advanced AI tools for students, entrepreneurs, artists and other creators.

Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Relations Manager for West Africa at Google, said the tool allows users to generate professional-quality visuals within seconds without requiring technical expertise.

He said small business owners could visualise storefront concepts, while storytellers could build consistent characters for digital comics, all from their smartphones.

Google said the model draws on Search to improve real-world accuracy, producing more realistic depictions of landmarks, brands and objects.

The tool supports consistent character rendering across multiple images and allows for the insertion of readable text, making it suitable for creating flyers, greeting cards and social media content.

To promote responsible use, Google said all AI-generated images will include an invisible digital watermark known as SynthID, alongside embedded metadata based on the C2PA standard to identify content as AI-generated.
