WARNING: Malicious App Threatens Android Users’ Private Messages on Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram

TECH DIGEST- A newly discovered cybersecurity threat has sent a warning to Android users, urging them to immediately remove a specific app from their devices. This app, known as SafeChat, has managed to infiltrate the Google Play Store with sophisticated communications-stealing malware.

Despite its removal from the online store, the malware remains active on previously downloaded devices, silently harvesting sensitive data from popular messaging platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

According to reports from cybersecurity firm Cyfirma, the malware exhibits similar tactics to previous bugs but possesses a more dangerous capability to acquire extensive permissions, making it a potent threat to users’ digital privacy. Operated by the hacking group ‘Bahamut,’ this app utilizes spyware technology to compromise text messages, call logs, and GPS locations.

Originating in India and established in 2017, the Bahamut group has a track record of targeting various operating systems, including iOS, Android, and Windows. Immediate action is advised to safeguard personal information and prevent further unauthorized access.
