Meta has announced a new suite of artificial intelligence features for Facebook as the company seeks to strengthen user engagement and expand the role of AI across its platforms.

The most significant addition is a feature known as “AI Mode,” which allows users to search Facebook using natural language questions and receive AI-generated answers based on public content across the platform, including posts, Groups and Reels.

Instead of browsing through traditional search results, users can ask questions directly and receive summarised responses generated by Meta AI.

The launch follows Meta’s recent introduction of Forum, a Reddit-style application that includes an AI-powered “Ask” feature capable of generating answers from discussions taking place within Facebook Groups.

The new search capabilities are expected to enhance content discovery, although they also raise concerns about the accuracy of information generated from public discussions rather than verified sources.

Beyond search, Meta has introduced new AI-powered creative tools designed to help users edit and personalise content.

The updates include collage cut-out effects, video transition tools and AI-powered photo presets that allow users to digitally modify hairstyles, clothing and accessories.

For example, sports fans can use AI tools to virtually wear their favourite team’s jersey in Stories or transform their profile pictures using AI-generated wardrobe options.

The latest features build on a series of AI initiatives introduced by Meta in recent months.

Earlier this year, the company launched animated profile pictures, AI-assisted responses for Facebook Marketplace sellers and an AI-powered assistant for content creators that provides posting recommendations and audience insights.

The creator-focused assistant offers suggestions such as optimal posting times and summaries of audience feedback based on performance data.

The latest rollout reflects Meta’s broader strategy of integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into Facebook while creating new opportunities for user engagement and revenue generation.

The company recently introduced subscription plans across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, starting at $3.99 per month, and is reportedly exploring additional AI-focused premium offerings.

Meta believes that expanding AI capabilities will make Facebook more useful and interactive while strengthening its position in the increasingly competitive AI market.
