Meta is set to unveil its first consumer-ready augmented reality smart glasses this week at its annual Connect event. The device, internally codenamed Hypernova and expected to be branded as Celeste, will feature a small digital display in the right lens to show notifications and integrate AI functions.

Unlike the company’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which retail for about $299, the new model could cost up to $800, positioning it against Oakley and other premium wearables. The glasses will ship with a wristband controller and a refreshed Ray-Ban line boasting improved cameras and battery life.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already invested more than $60 billion since 2020 into AR and AI, calling smart glasses a future “gateway to superintelligence.” But with limited adoption and rising scrutiny over Meta’s AI safety record, analysts expect sales in the low hundreds of thousands at launch.
