Meta has begun testing a new premium subscription service on Instagram, offering users access to exclusive features as part of its broader monetisation strategy.
The subscription, known as “Instagram Plus,” is currently being tested in a limited number of countries, including Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines.
Among its features is the ability for users to view Stories anonymously, preventing the original poster from knowing they have been viewed. Subscribers can also see how many times their own Stories have been rewatched.
The service introduces additional customisation options, allowing users to create multiple audience lists for Stories beyond the standard “Close Friends” feature.
Other features include extending Story visibility for an extra 24 hours, boosting a Story’s visibility once a week, and using animated “Superlikes” on other users’ Stories.
Subscribers will also be able to search their Story viewer list, making it easier to track specific viewers.
Pricing varies by country, with reports indicating monthly fees ranging from about $1 to $2.
Meta said the subscription is separate from its existing Meta Verified service, which is targeted at creators and businesses. Instead, Instagram Plus is designed for everyday users.
The company noted that the feature remains in the testing phase and may undergo further adjustments before a wider rollout.
