Microsoft Pledges $1 Million to Boost AI Skills for One Million Nigerians
Microsoft has announced a major investment of $1 million (approximately ₦1.6 billion) to enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills among Nigerians. Over the next two years, the initiative aims to train one million individuals, equipping them with AI competencies to thrive in the evolving digital economy.
The announcement was made recently in Lagos by Ola Williams, Microsoft’s Country Manager for Nigeria and Ghana. The initiative aligns with Microsoft’s broader commitment to fostering digital transformation and bridging the AI skills gap in Africa.
“This investment underscores Microsoft’s dedication to empowering Nigerians with the necessary skills to harness AI’s potential,” Williams stated.
“By training one million individuals, we hope to create opportunities, drive innovation, and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.”
The AI skills development program is expected to involve partnerships with educational institutions, tech hubs, and government agencies. Beneficiaries will receive hands-on training, certifications, and access to cutting-edge AI tools to prepare them for emerging opportunities in technology-driven industries.
Nigeria has been witnessing a surge in AI adoption across various sectors, from fintech to healthcare. With this investment, Microsoft aims to position Nigeria as a leader in AI talent development, ensuring that its workforce remains competitive in the global digital landscape.
