Microsoft announced that data from its European cloud customers would remain in Europe, governed by European law, managed by local staff, and fully controlled by customers on Monday.
Growing concerns among European companies and governments about data being transferred abroad, especially to the U.S,. have pressured American tech firms like Microsoft to introduce new safeguards.
In April, Microsoft outlined measures to safeguard user data as it expands its cloud and AI infrastructure across Europe, committing to comply with European laws aimed at curbing the influence of major tech firms.
On Monday, the company added that any remote access by Microsoft engineers to systems handling European data would require real-time approval and oversight by personnel based in Europe.
Microsoft stated that its sovereign private cloud is currently in preview and will be fully available later this year.
