Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has directed all departments in the ministry to align their operations with digital transformation frameworks, warning that the justice sector can no longer afford to lag behind.
Speaking at a management retreat in Akwa Ibom on Thursday, Fagbemi said reliance on manual systems had worsened inefficiencies in criminal trials, prison congestion, and access to justice.
“The challenges of today demand that justice never sleeps. We must adopt digital tools to deliver timely and transparent services,” he declared.
He ordered the adoption of frameworks like the Federal Civil Service Strategy & Implementation Plan (2021–2025), the National Policy on Justice, and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing data-driven and AI-powered solutions.
Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, who opened the retreat, praised the initiative, saying his state had already introduced e-governance and digital case management.
Solicitor General Beatrice Jeddy-Agba said the retreat was designed to build capacity in AI-driven legal workflows, electronic content management, and digital litigation tools.
