Elon Musk said on Saturday that social media platform X will make public its recommendation algorithm, including the full code governing organic and advertising posts, within seven days.

In a post on X, Musk said the company would repeat the disclosure every four weeks and publish detailed developer notes explaining changes made to the system. He did not provide further details on how the code would be released or audited.

The announcement comes amid heightened regulatory scrutiny of X in Europe. Earlier this week, the European Commission said it had extended a data retention order issued to the platform last year, requiring X to preserve records related to its algorithms and the spread of illegal content until the end of 2026.

In July 2025, French prosecutors opened an investigation into X over suspected algorithmic bias and unlawful data extraction. At the time, the company described the probe as a politically motivated criminal investigation that threatened users’ free speech.

Last month, the European Union fined X €120 million ($140 million) for breaching transparency obligations under the Digital Services Act. Regulators said the violations related to the platform’s “blue checkmark” subscription system, shortcomings in its advertising repository, and failure to provide researchers with access to public data.

Musk responded to the fine with an obscenity in a reply to a European Commission post announcing the penalty.
