NITDA AI Developers Training, NAIDT, Celebrates One Year of Empowering Nigerian Youths in AI
The NITDA Artificial intelligence Developers Training (NAIDT) programme, initially known as the NITDA Developers Group (NDG) Training, has proven to be a game-changer in the realm of Artificial Intelligence education in Nigeria.
The program, aimed at accelerating the capacity of young Nigerians in the field of AI, has made significant strides, thanks to the support of volunteers from the Google Developers Group (GDG).
NAIDT, operating under the NITDA “Learn, Teach and Earn” philosophy, has not only trained and upskilled Nigerian youth but also facilitated the creation of innovation-driven startups.
Graduates of the program have embraced the role of instructors, thus perpetuating a cycle of learning, teaching, and earning. This innovative approach has not only transformed lives but has also created a positive domino effect in Nigerian society.

Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, lauded the program’s beneficiaries and expressed his commitment to supporting the startups originating from NAIDT.
He also extended his appreciation to GDG for their steadfast support in ensuring the success of the program. However, in a notable concern, Abdullahi pointed out the gender imbalance in the program, with female participants comprising less than 10%.
He urged GDG to develop innovative ways to address this issue, such as offering specialized training in AI and emerging technologies for women.
NAIDT’s impact has been substantial, with 12 cohorts trained and a total of 2,785 participants from various walks of life, including NYSC corps members, graduates, secondary school students, and artisans.
The program provides training in machine learning, data analytics, and other AI domains, such as natural language processing (NLP). Notably, participants are also introduced to the use of AI tools like ChatGPT to harness the capabilities of large language models.
