Nigeria’s telecom regulator has blamed recent service disruptions in parts of Abuja on diesel supply problems affecting critical telecommunications infrastructure.
In a statement dated December 12, 2025, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said the disruptions were caused by difficulties in powering base stations and other essential facilities due to constrained diesel supply. The Commission linked the situation to actions by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA).
The NCC said it was engaging telecom operators, fuel suppliers and other stakeholders to resolve the issue and prevent further deterioration of service quality. It added that discussions were ongoing to identify sustainable solutions and remove bottlenecks in diesel distribution affecting network operations.
“The Commission urges all parties to work together to collaboratively resolve these challenges swiftly,” the NCC said, adding that efforts were underway to restore full telecom services in affected areas. Subscribers, it said, would be kept informed as the situation evolves.
