NCC Opens Entries For N1m National Essay Competition For Undergraduates

TECH DIGEST – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called for entries for its 2021 National Essay Competition for undergraduates.
This is the 3rd National Essay Competition by NCC designed to inspire innovative essay writing skills in tertiary students across the country.

NCC in a public notice endorsed by the Director, Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, noted that the topic for this year is “5G Technology: Opportunities and Challenges.”

The notice shows that the objective of the essay competition is to increase awareness on 5G Technology, engage and enhance research, encourage academic competition and excellence, while building capacity of undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The DPA also said that the eligibility criteria includes that all undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions both private and public can send entries.

“All participants are expected to register their personal details in the form provided for download on the NCC website, signed by their Deans as genuine Nigerian Undergraduates,” Adinde said.

As said by him, “All essays will be subjected to plagiarism checks,” while winners will be invited by the Committee members to defend their essays by way of presentation.

“Candidates who cannot successfully defend their submissions will be disqualified,” he said.

Additionally, he said that all entries will be assess based on the fact that the essay should contain a minimum of 1,000 words and a minimum of 500 words on the topic, have an abstract, introduction, main body and conclusion, referenced.

NCC promises that the essay entries will go through a rigorous selection process and scrutinized based on content, grammar and structure and must get to the Commission via PDF format with all necessary attachments.

The first prize include;

a laptop, printer and cash prize of N500,000.00;

as the second prize winner will get N300,000 and

third place winner will go home with N200,000 respectively.

Adinde noted that the deadline for submission of entries is Friday, July 30, 2021, while winning essays will be announced Monday, September 13, 2021.
