TECH DIGEST- The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has reported a continuous upswing in the adoption of the .ng domain name, with statistics revealing a subtle but consistent increase over the last year. The figures, released by NiRA, indicate that the count has risen from 193,085 registrations in May to 198,294 in July 2023, signifying a gradual expansion in the domain’s popularity.
Responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), NiRA’s latest data underscores the persistent growth in the adoption rate of the .ng domain. The numbers reflect an upward trajectory spanning several months, showcasing the domain’s increased prominence within the country.

Analyzing the historical trajectory of .ng domain adoption over the past year, the numbers tell a compelling story. In July 2022, the count reached 180,162, climbing to 181,275 between August and September of the same year. From October to November 2022, the adoption rate experienced another increment, ascending to 183,169. Subsequent months exhibited further growth: December 2022 marked 183,792 registrations, January 2023 saw 184,425, and March 2023 recorded 189,158.
Evidently, the trend has continued, with registrations scaling from 189,158 in March to 193,085 in May and further escalating to 198,294 in July 2023. The comprehensive dataset highlights the domain’s steady ascent, manifesting its growing resonance among the digital populace.

Delving into the specifics, the breakdown reveals that registrations alone reached 7,777 in May, tapered to 7,589 in June, and resurged to 8,308 in July. In parallel, the renewal of .ng domain names was logged at 5,252 in May, and experienced a marginal increase to 5,254 in June, before reaching 5,403 in July. Restoration, a measure of domain reactivation, saw 163 cases in May, followed by a dip to 129 in June and an equivalent number in July 2023.
