Nigeria’s ambition to lead in artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G connectivity could be held back by critical gaps in its data-centre infrastructure, industry leaders warn.
At a recent technology forum, Vertiv’s Managing Director for Africa said the country’s digital economy is growing steadily but lacks the power reliability, scale, and policy support needed for AI workloads, cloud computing, and next-generation telecom networks.
“Without modern, scalable data centres and a stable power grid, we risk losing competitiveness as global tech shifts rapidly to AI and 5G,” he said.
Stakeholders are calling on the government to develop clear regulatory frameworks and attract investment in renewable energy and hyperscale data centres to meet rising digital demands.
