Nigeria’s telecoms operators have resolved the recent outage of the SIM swap service following the deployment of the NINAuth portal, an identity verification system integrating users’ National Identification Numbers (NIN).
This development comes after a major disruption earlier in the day, during which users were unable to access SIM swap functionality—an essential process for linking SIM cards to NINs for regulatory compliance. The new portal ensures that users’ NINs are authenticated against the national database before card activations or transfers are approved.
The introduction of the NINAuth system marks a significant step toward aligning SIM registration and security protocols, reducing identity fraud, and safeguarding mobile subscriber data across Nigeria.
