Nigeria’s broadband penetration surpassed the 50 per cent mark for the first time in November 2025, indicating gradual improvement in access to high-speed internet across the country, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The NCC disclosed this in its latest industry statistics, which showed that broadband penetration stood at 50.58 per cent in November, up from 49.89 per cent recorded in October. The increase represents a month-on-month growth of 0.69 percentage points.

As of November, Nigeria had a total of 109.6 million broadband connections, the data revealed. Despite the milestone, the country has fallen short of the 70 per cent broadband penetration target set under the National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020–2025, which expires in December.

Year-to-date figures indicate modest progress, with broadband penetration rising by 6.15 per cent in 2025, from 44.43 per cent at the end of 2024.

Meanwhile, total internet subscriptions — covering 3G, 4G and 5G services — increased to 144.7 million in November, compared to 142.6 million in October.

MTN maintained its position as the largest internet service provider in the country, recording 78.8 million active internet subscriptions. Airtel followed with 50.3 million connections, while Globacom reported 14.2 million internet subscribers. T2, formerly known as 9mobile, recorded 771,035 active internet connections.

Internet subscriptions across Internet Service Providers (ISPs), fixed wired, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers stood at 635,626, according to the NCC data.
