NIMC Ends Data Modification at Enrollment Centers, Directs Users to Self-Service Portal

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that it will no longer process data modification requests at any of its National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment centers across the country. Instead, the Commission has urged NIN holders to use its self-service modification portal for any updates to their personal information.

This policy shift, communicated via a notice recently, marks a significant change in the NIMC’s service delivery model.

Although the self-service portal had been operational for some time, many users continued to endure long queues at physical centers to modify their data.

In a post shared on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, NIMC explained that the decision to discontinue modifications at physical centers is part of broader efforts to enhance the efficiency of the National Identity Management System.

“Modification activities will no longer be conducted in our enrollment centers. Instead, we have launched a convenient self-service modification portal, empowering you to update your information securely and efficiently online,” the Commission stated.

The self-service platform offers several advantages, including the convenience of being able to update information from any location, avoiding long waiting periods, and enhancing data security through its secure online infrastructure.

Despite the convenience offered by the portal, some users have reported issues, particularly with receiving one-time passwords (OTP) necessary to proceed with their applications.

Others have encountered challenges after making payments, receiving rejection messages without clear instructions on how to resolve their cases.

Modifying a date of birth via the portal costs N16,340, while changing a phone number or name costs N1,522 each. The same fee applies to address changes.

To use the NIMC self-service, users must verify their NIN and log in on the platform. After navigating to the “NIN Modification” option, they can update their personal information, make payments via Paystack, and submit the necessary supporting documents.

For date of birth changes, users are required to enter and validate their National Population Commission (NPC) certificate number.Once submitted, a modification slip is generated, and upon approval, the updated NIN slip will be sent to the user’s email or can be printed directly from the portal.

For those lacking a birth certificate, the platform offers the option to complete an online birth attestation through the National Population Commission’s website.
