The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced strict access rules for Nigerians using its self-service portal to modify National Identification Number (NIN) records. The new guidelines, aimed at bolstering data protection, limit access to the same device and browser originally used during account registration.
In a statement signed by Head of Corporate Communications Dr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC explained that switching devices or clearing browser cache may result in access denial or permanent account lockout. Users are allowed only five unlock attempts before requiring a formal unlinking process to regain access.
The Commission urged users to strictly follow the guidelines to avoid disruptions and ensure smooth processing of their NIN modifications. NIMC emphasized that the measures are part of broader efforts to secure personal data and improve service delivery in the identity management ecosystem.
