In a major effort to boost Nigeria’s digital identification coverage, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is deploying National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to carry out National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment in local communities across the country.

The initiative is part of the Ward Enrollment Exercise, aimed at reaching underserved and remote areas. It aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and seeks to accelerate the registration of Nigerians, especially children under 16, into the NIN system.

According to Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Corps members are undergoing specialized training before being posted to community wards nationwide. Over 120 million Nigerians have been enrolled so far, but the Commission aims to reach 95% of the population by December 2025.

“This grassroots approach is vital to ensure every Nigerian is counted and accounted for,” said Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, NIMC’s Director-General. “With better infrastructure, expanded registration centers, and public sensitization, we will meet our target.”

The program is also expected to enhance government planning by providing more accurate population data.
