The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s digital economy through green technology and innovation.

Speaking at the 3rd Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED 2025), organised by the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN), Inuwa praised the group’s efforts in championing youth-led innovation under the theme “Green Tech and Energy Revolution: Transforming Business and Society.”

“TED 2025 once again proves that Nigeria’s youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but the change-makers of today,” he said.

He outlined NITDA’s interventions, including the establishment of Technology and Innovation Hubs, as well as initiatives such as iHatch, IgniteHer, We Elevate, Renewed Hope Innovation Nest, and the National Innovation Challenge. These, he said, are designed to empower youth, women, and small businesses to build scalable digital solutions.

Inuwa stressed that green technology is now a necessity, not an option, urging collaboration among government, industry, academia, and citizens.

Delivering the keynote, sustainability expert Dr. Krakrafaa Bestman said Nigeria’s vast solar, wind, and hydro resources must be leveraged to close the electricity gap and drive sustainable development. He cited government targets to generate 30% of electricity from renewables by 2030 and to deploy 5GW of solar power, alongside community-based mini-grids.

Bestman called for reforms to attract investment, greater business commitment to clean energy sourcing, and adoption of circular economy practices such as recycling and waste-to-energy solutions.

“Green technologies must not only drive businesses but also protect the future,” he said, urging Nigeria to lead Africa in sustainable innovation.
