Nigeria has earned international recognition for its strides in digital governance after winning two prestigious awards at the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit held in Spain.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with civil society group Dataphyte, received the Regional Award for Africa and the Middle East for advancing Open Digital Governance, as well as the Thematic Award as the overall global winner in the Digital Governance category.

The awards followed a rigorous review of 160 commitments from 42 countries. Nigeria’s initiatives were praised for their innovation, transparency, and citizen participation in governance. NITDA’s efforts have focused on using technology to build a transparent and accountable government, strengthening public service delivery and civic engagement.

The achievement underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in shaping global digital governance and reaffirms the government’s commitment to building an inclusive, open, and technology-driven society.
