The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced that the federal government will soon end the practice of multiple data submissions by Nigerians through the deployment of the Nigerian Data Exchange Platform (NGDX).
For years, citizens have been compelled to repeatedly submit the same personal information across different agencies—ranging from NIN registration and BVN to SIM card registration, driver’s licences, and international passports. NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop in Abuja on Monday, said the NGDX would serve as a secure and unified data exchange system, eliminating the need for repeated submissions.
According to him, the platform will enable seamless verification and sharing of data among authorised government institutions, saving time and money for citizens while improving efficiency in the public sector. Businesses, particularly fintechs and other service providers that depend on identity verification, will also benefit from faster KYC processes and access to government-backed verification systems.
Inuwa explained that beyond convenience, the NGDX would allow anonymised public data to be leveraged by startups and enterprises to drive innovation in healthcare, agriculture, fintech, and education technology. He described the NGDX as “essential digital infrastructure” comparable to the nationwide fibre optic rollout, stressing its importance to Nigeria’s digital economy. NITDA is working with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, alongside other stakeholders, to ensure its successful rollout.
