OpenAI Launches SearchGPT, Entering Google-Dominated Search Market
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is set to challenge Google’s dominance in the search engine market with the launch of its new search tool, SearchGPT.
Announced recently, SearchGPT is designed to be a viable alternative to Google Search, leveraging AI to improve search capabilities.
OpenAI and Google are already major competitors in the artificial intelligence (AI) space, with their respective products, ChatGPT and Gemini, vying for user adoption.
OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, highlighted the company’s ambition to enhance the current state of search.
“We think there is room to make search much better than it is today. We are launching a new prototype called SearchGPT. We will learn from the prototype, make it better, and then integrate the tech into ChatGPT to make it real-time and maximally helpful,” Altman said in a post on X.
The announcement positions OpenAI in direct competition not only with Google but also with its primary backer, Microsoft’s Bing search, and emerging players like Perplexity, an AI search-focused firm supported by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and semiconductor giant Nvidia.
