Spain’s government announced it will ask prosecutors to investigate X (formerly Twitter), Meta, and TikTok for potential offences related to AI-generated child pornography.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the investigation responds to reports that one in five young Spaniards have been victims of fake nude images generated by AI, particularly affecting girls.
“These platforms are harming the mental health, dignity, and rights of our sons and daughters. The state cannot allow it. The impunity of [tech] giants must end,” Sanchez said on X.
The move comes amid a growing international debate on AI regulation, with separate investigations underway in Britain, France, the EU, and California over sexualised AI-generated content.
Sanchez has previously advocated for stricter social media regulation, including a ban for users under 16, and has publicly criticised tech leaders such as Elon Musk and Pavel Durov.
