TECHDIGEST – In Its continuous efforts to create fair and inclusive society that provides equal opportunity, the Federal government of Nigeria, through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), organized a 1-day stakeholders consultation forum on the National Outsourcing Strategy (NOS), in Abuja, to give stakeholders an opportunity for inputs to express their views and opinions on the proposed NOS.

The participants which include the Academia, relevant MDA’s, ICT Related Organizations, as well as Government representatives, and key relevant stakeholders in the Digital Economy sector share ideas and brainstorm for gainful deliberation.

The Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, who was represented by the Ag. Director, Digital Economy Department, Engr. Salisu Kaka said that the stakeholder’s engagement is an avenue where the National Outsourcing Strategy will enable Nigeria to take advantage of the opportunities presented by global value chain, leveraging its competitive advantages of having the largest youth population in Africa, mature telecoms market, strategic geographic location, and vibrant innovation ecosystem to create millions of jobs.

According to him, the vision of National Outsourcing Strategy is to make Nigeria a prime global outsourcing destination. To achieve this, 7 strategic pillars have been carefully chosen based on the country’s unique environment and strengths, in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) for a Digital Nigeria.

He noted that, the strategy is also in alignment with the National Development plan and addresses key focus areas of Mr President which are economic diversification, youth employment and security.

“We, in NITDA, call on all stakeholders to support the implementation of the strategy. This, we are confident, will facilitate the development of a resilient and vibrant digital economy”, he noted.

Furthermore, he stated, “as a national strategy, we encourage all stakeholders to cascade this strategy so that we can build a highly competitive market, making Nigeria the prime Global Outsourcing Destination.”

Presenting a paper on the NOS, Dr, Ayodele A. Bakare, Head of Digital Technology Adaption Unit, NITDA, discussed the summary information about the proposed NOS which include the rationale, vision, mission, goals and Objectives of the NOS as well as supporting pillars, governance structure, and implementation strategy.

Laying emphasis on the primary objective of the document, he said, “the National Outsourcing Strategy which align with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy aims to deliver 5 Million Jobs in Nigeria by 2030”.

“To achieve this ambitious target, the strategy is focused on seven critical pillars which include the following: Outsourcing, Infrastructure, Human Capital Development, Trust, Privacy and Security, Branding and Promotion, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and lastly, Finance and Incentives,” he concluded.

TECHDIGEST – In furtherance to its resolve at deepening the Digital Transformation Pillar of its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, (SRAP) 2021-2024 under the Agricultural value chain, the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA has commenced the train of another 75 farmers under the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture, (NAVSA) to be adopted on the platform.

The training holding at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State capital starts today with the registration and profiling of the beneficiaries and will culminate on Friday February 17th with the presentation of seed funding and digital tools they leverage on for smart farming.

Speaking during the profiling ceremony, the team lead and Assistance Director, Digital Economy Development Department, Dr. Ayodele Bakare admonished the beneficiaries to take the training seriously and give it their utmost attention and interests as it could be their fortune changer for them.

Also, the programme Desk officer, Mr. Lukman Lamid enjoined them to be punctual because being selected for the training does not guarantee that digital tools and seed funding would be given to anyone who does not make himself available for the training.

NAVSA is an Initiative of NITDA under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy which is modeled in the concept of smart farming to provide the agricultural sector with the infrastructure that leverage Emerging Technology like Big Data, Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things for tracking, monitoring, automation and analyzing farm operation.

The programme goals are to improved production and productivity of every adopted farmer on NAVSA platform by 35 per cent; increase the income of every adopted farmer on NAVSA platform by 30 per cent at every harvest; improve production and productivity of any other farmers on NAVSA platform by 20 per cent and increase the income of any other farmer on NAVSA platform by 15 per cent at every harvest.

The programme has since adopted 835 farmers across five states of katsina, Ogun, Jigawa, Gombe, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and created almost 5000 direct and indirect jobs in the country.

TECHDIGEST – The rapid increase in the digital transformation of economic and social activities has resulted in an unprecedented expansion of data collection and usage. Hence, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in furtherance to implementing its mandate as provided in section 6 of NITDA Act 2007 to standardize, coordinate and develop regulatory frameworks for all Information Technology (IT) practices in Nigeria, has developed a draft National Data Strategy (NDS), in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) for a digital Nigeria.

In accordance with the NDEPS, which provides a solid foundation for the Nigerian economy to be data-driven, the NDS aims to harness the potential of data for social and economic value creation towards achieving a robust digital economy and ensuring Nigeria becomes a top leader in the global data economy.

Furthermore, the NDS is developed to accelerate the adoption and use of digital technologies, especially emerging technologies, for data collection, validation, storage, analysis, transmission, and reporting, which will enhance research and innovations, digital services, digital economy, job creation, improved quality of life, social and economic growth and prosperity, global competitiveness and sustainable development.

Additionally, in line with global best practices, the NDS was developed on principles that will ensure fairness in the digital space, stimulate a competitive data market, open opportunities for data-driven innovation and make data more accessible for all.
