TECH DIGEST – The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has disclosed its readiness to begin mass production of its android smart phone, preparatory for its introduction into the market.

Sir Joseph Ari, Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the ITF, disclosed this after the formal presentation of the ITF Mobile Android GSM smart phone to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.

Suleyol Fred Chagu, Director, Public Affairs Department in ITF, quoted Ari as saying plans were afoot to commence mass production of the phone in preparation for its introduction into the market.

Ari said: “Plans are at an advanced stage to ensure commencement of the mass production of the smart phone, making it available and affordable, which in turn will expand the GSM phone market and create more jobs in the process.

“We are presently putting processes in place with the relevant regulatory agencies towards quality assurance, legal framework and intellectual rights amongst others.

“Our vision is to create a mass production hub that will churn out products that will be available to all Nigerians.”

He added that the ITF mobile phone, which was comparable in quality to any other brand of Android Phone in the world, was assembled by the ITF Model Skills Training Centre (MSTC), Abuja, as part of the implementation of the vision of the incumbent management of the ITF with particular emphasis on research and development.

According to him, “The ITF Mobile Phone was produced with 100 percent locally sourced material. And for me, this breakthrough is proof that given the enabling environment and opportunities, Nigerians will unleash their creative potentials.

“in terms of quality and performance, our phone is comparable or even superior to most Android phones currently in our markets.”

He, however, commended the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its policies of encouragement of innovation and creativity and for its initiatives that gave birth to this breakthrough, appealing for increased funding for the ITF to ensure full actualisation of its mandate.

He also lauded the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and his counterpart, Ambassador Mariam Yalwaji Katagum, for providing qualitative leadership that has unleashed innovativeness and creativity of agencies and parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry.

TECH DIGEST – President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received the first made in Nigeria cell phone, known as ITF Mobile.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister of Industry, trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, presented the phone to the president, before the commencement of Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

According to Adebayo, the phone is one of the 12 cell phones produced, using locally sourced components, by the Electrical/Electronics Technology Department of the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) Model Skills Training Centre.

He said: “Twelve indigenous mobile cell phones produced by the Model Skills Training Centre of the Industrial Training Fund; an agency under Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment was launched.

“It gives me great pleasure Mr President, to present you with one of the phones.”

NAN reports the president also presided over the swearing-in of one Commissioner each, for the National Population Commission (NPC) and the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCC) ahead of deliberations at the cabinet meeting.

Those sworn-in were Wakil Bukar as Commissioner of the FCC and Mohammed Dattijo Usman as Commissioner of the NPC.

Bukar replaces the FCC Commissioner from Bauchi State while Usman replaces the NPC Commissioner from Niger.

NAN observed that the representatives from the two states died recently.

Meanwhile, President Buhari is presiding over the meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the conference room of the First Lady’s office.

Among those physically attending the meeting are Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Others include the Ministers of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Finance, Zainab Ahmed, Justice, Abubakar Malami and Trade and investment; Niyi Adebayo.

The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan and other Ministers are participating in the meeting from their various offices in Abuja online. (NAN)
