TECHDIGEST – Online job platform, Jobberman has launched an employer-focused initiative, “Jobberman Starter Promo”, aimed at contributing to employment growth and providing an enabling environment for employers looking to give young talents a head start.

The initiative is an offshoot of its ongoing partnership with Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works and will allow companies to utilize Jobberman’s Job listing product for free, over the next three months for jobs that require between 0-3 years of experience.

The Jobberman starter Promo is designed to attract employers interested in posting entry-level job listings on the platform by offering free credit listing for the job. With its partnership with Mastercard Foundation, the mission is to upskill over a million Nigerian youths, matching them with dignified job opportunities.

Speaking at the launch of this initiative, Chief Executive Officer, Jobberman, Oreoluwa Boboye, said: “We are West Africa’s number one career platform because we ensure that we connect the right candidates with the right opportunities. We have built careers over the years and will continue to support Nigerian youth with the right employment opportunities. With our experience and level of expertise, we have identified the gaps in improving candidates’ uptake into companies and seek to remove the barriers. This is why we launched the Jobberman Starter Promo. With this, we will bridge the gap between employers in Nigeria and the entry-level job seekers in the country.”

Boboye said the Jobberman Starter promo initiative and its partnership with the Mastercard Foundation advance its commitment to solving talent issues in the country and contributing to reducing Nigeria’s unemployment rate.

TECH DIGEST – The Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI) Mohammed Abdullahi has called on Government and the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to initiate urgent interventions in order to engage Nigerian youths make their lives more meaningful.

The Minister said this when he gave a goodwill message at the Generation Unlimited Nigeria Launch during the week in Abuja.

The Minister therefore made a reference to a disturbing 2020 report made by Saadia Zahidi who is the Managing director of World Economic Forum (WEF) that in the next five (5) years about 85million Jobs will be disrupted around the world due to lack of skills ,population, robotics, remote work etc.

The Minister further said that 85million persons globally comprises of about 65million of our Nigerian youth which is alarming and gloomy that needs to be arrested urgently. He further commended the initiatives of jobberman which is aimed at developing soft skills curriculum and placements to make our youths employable and capable of generating employment.

The Minister said the Generation Unlimited platform is also aimed at creating better education, skills, employment and entrepreneur opportunities for young persons, adding that the program is at the heart of challenges facing the global youth population and believes the initiative by UNICEF would help in bridging the gap.

In is words , ‘’the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation is willing to partner with UNICEF in this direction especially in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) as a tool to engage the youths meaningfully ‘’ adding that the Ministry will partner with UNICEF to create sustainable and skilled youth manpower for job and wealth creation.

He further thanked the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo for his untiring efforts in addressing these challenges by churning out several youths engagement programs through the economic sustainability program.

TECH DIGEST – Jobberman, the single largest job placement website in sub-Saharan Africa, has partnered with the Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a bid to train 120,000 youth corpers a year.
The free soft skills training course, now synonymous with the Jobberman name, will take place in NYSC camps across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The revered national institution, which focuses on bringing thousands of youth together from around Nigeria, provides a pivotal step for Jobberman in tackling the enormity of unemployment and underemployment issues amongst the country’s 100 million youth.

According to recent figures, the youth unemployment rate in Nigeria is as high as 14.2% and underemployment between the ages of 15 to 34 rose to 57% in Q2 of 2020.

Having the sixth-largest youth population in the world, with over 300,000 young people entering the jobs market each month, is making securing dignified employment increasingly more challenging and competitive.

However, employability continues to be a determining factor as research shows that hard skills only contributes to 15% of success in obtaining a job, whereas soft skills make up 85%. Soft skills bridge the gap between education and employment, as a result, candidates are more equipped for the workplace.

The National Services Corps’ annual one-year programme to steer youth capacity development, whilst also fostering cultural and social cohesion, is perfectly matched with Jobberman’s focus on upskilling 5 million young people and placing 3 million in dignified employment by 2025.

This is part of the company’s mandate through the Young Nigeria Works project in partnership with Mastercard Foundation.

The technology-driven company advocates the importance of democratising the jobs market by placing 100% of job opportunities online, as well as creating a transparent labour market to drastically improve workplace productivity.

With over 60,000 employers on the platform to be connected with, the leading recruitment website will train NYSC members in areas such as emotional intelligence, personal effectiveness, and presentation skills. In turn, presenting employable candidates to some of Nigeria’s most reputable companies.

Speaking on the partnership, the CEO of Jobberman Nigeria, Rolake Rosiji, said, “NYSC resonates with all Nigerians and is a homegrown partnership that Jobberman is very proud to have established; the significance of which will be transformational for the country’s youth and economy. In February 2021, Jobberman successfully piloted the program and trained 35 NYSC schedule officers at the Lagos camp, before the partnership launched the first of its three-week camps in April.

The Director of CDS and Special Projects at the NYSC, Mr Rasak Salawu, says “Jobberman’s partnership with NYSC will drive youth employment across states through hybrid and digitally enabled training. This will be an opportunity provided to graduates of different schools and backgrounds in Nigeria and abroad.”

The Jobberman soft skills training program has so far upskilled over 100,000 young people since launching in May 2020, at the height of the pandemic, and has placed 60% of those that have completed the course in dignified employment.
