TECHDIGEST – Amazon Ring has appointed Ashour Corporation FZE, a Dubai-based company with majority stake by Nigerian-born tech billionaire and Forbes Best of Africa Leading Tech Icon, Leo Stan Ekeh, as authorised distributor of Amazon Bell products in West Africa.

The agreement was signed last week between the top management of Amazon Ring LLC and Ashour Corporation FZE, Dubai.

Ring LLC is a home security and smart home company owned by Amazon. The company manufactures home security products that incorporate outdoor surveillance cameras, including Ring video doorbell, smart doorbell and smart cameras. Ring LLC also provides video footage from its cameras and data from its Neighbors App to law enforcement agencies on request. These simple to install and cost friendly security products are global number one products for homes and offices, with little or no maintenance cost and come with additional warranty.

Ashour Corporation FZE, Dubai was incorporated in 2004. The company has been involved in the deployment of major satellite projects in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Africa, etc and biggest partner of iDIRECT USA in UAE and major partners of TerraSat, Norsat, Misshinbo, Actox and Jubiter Microwave, among others.

Mr. Mohammad Hoda, VP Business Development, Middle East and Africa, Ring LLC, who confirmed this development, disclosed that they are excited to sign a partnership with Ashour Corporation and by extension, TD Africa, because they have the right credentials for Amazon’s standard.

Ashour Corporation will work with TD Africa to develop our products in Nigeria and other countries in Africa. It is also into ICT products distribution and services. TECHDIGEST – The Zinox Group has recently offered employment to a batch of unemployed Nigerian graduates who successfully scaled through its internship programme. The recruitment by the tech conglomerate is part of its efforts to reduce the harsh economic crunch on the youths.

The successful graduates, numbering over 50 out of over 5,000 qualified applicants drawn from various parts of Nigeria, were among the second batch of participants who passed through a 30-day intensive mini-MBA training program organized by the Zinox Institute of Technology (ZIT).

Participants were exposed to world class trainings, job-suitability scenarios and capacity building workshops across various management functions including Accounts, Procurement, Core Engineering, Software Development, Business Development, Etiquette and Grooming, HR/Admin, among others. The sessions were facilitated by a faculty of over 20 highly reputed resource persons including the Zinox Group Chairman, Leo Stan Ekeh.

The initiative, which the management of Zinox revealed is part of its contributions towards giving hope to many Nigerians amid the ongoing difficulties in the local and global economy, witnessed over 5,000 applications from qualified graduates across the country. Additionally, the recruitment will continue in batches, with successful candidates who emerge from the scheme immediately absorbed into any of the multiple entities in the Zinox Group.

While encouraging the successful candidates not to betray the confidence reposed in them, Ekeh urged them not to lose faith in Nigeria.

He admonished them to shun negative sentiments or news reports about the future of the country, adding that the Nigerian economy has passed through other trying times in the past, even as he expressed optimism that it would equally emerge stronger from its current challenges.

‘‘Those of you selected have a unique opportunity to re-write your destinies and that of those around you. I have consciously given you the secret of our little successes. So, I encourage you to work hard, avoid vices and repay the trust shown in you. And for the ladies, this is possibly the only group of companies in the world that has five CEOs who are globally certified women. So, you should work with pride because you earned it.

‘‘Also, I wish to remind you that, despite the current challenges in the economy, we have not even scratched the surface, when it comes to the huge potential that abounds in the Nigerian economy. I urge you to pay no heed to negative projections about Nigeria.

TECHDIGEST – David Kan, a founding member of its Board of Directors of Zinox Technologies Ltd., and CEO of Mustek Plc, a leading integrated technology group listed on the Johannesburg and Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Kan, 62, died on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Originally from Taiwan, the late David Kan settled in South Africa. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Zinox at the launch of the tech brand in 2001 alongside Pierre Lanversin, a former Managing Director of Elf (Nigeria). He was also a very close associate of the Chairman, Zinox Group, Leo Stan Ekeh, who expressed shock at his passing.

‘‘It is with a great sense of sadness and loss that I received news of the death of Mr. David Kan. He was a gentleman, a tech whiz kid, very knowledgeable and blessed with a good business brain.

‘‘David’s Mustek taught South Africa local content and was the main technology backbone during the apartheid regime when major tech companies terminated business relationships with South Africa as he comfortably filled the gap. He will be greatly missed,’’ Ekeh added.

David Kan’s death was announced by Mustek on Thursday, with the company revealing that further details of his demise will be made available at a later stage.

“It is with profound sadness that Mustek Plc confirms that David Kan, our much loved and respected co-founder and CEO since the group’s inception in 1987, has passed away. We extend our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy to David’s family. Our thoughts are with them at this most difficult time,” a statement from Mustek read.

Kan founded Mustek in 1987 and was the major shareholder of Mustek at the time of his death and had, over the years, guided the company to growth. Kan claimed that he knew nothing about computers or how to operate a business because he had never been in charge, but that his move came at the right time.

He was a highly respected icon and legendary figure in the IT industry in South Africa and beyond.

The terms of the MoU will see NIDCOM partner with Konga in offering Nigerians based in overseas locations a credible platform devoid of the potential concerns of fraud and other unscrupulous practices.

Consequently, through this synergy, Konga will place its huge resources, extensive reach, world class assets and credible database at the disposal of millions of Nigerians in the Diaspora in search of a reliable and robust platform to work with in the country.

In addition, the partnership will see Konga set up an exclusive Diaspora Marketplace to aid Nigerians abroad gain access to quality Nigerian products and services, while also helping them sell their own items locally.

Furthermore, NIDCOM will also leverage Konga TV, a cutting-edge Cloud TV soon to be launched by the e-commerce giant, to reach millions of Nigerians across the globe.

The development is one which the FG believes will ease capital flight, while also boosting the scope of useful foreign exchange earnings through Diaspora returns.

He made this known during the signing of a landmark partnership between Konga and the Ministry aimed at generating creative employment for millions of Nigerian youths.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to seal the partnership was signed on Monday, September 13, 2021 in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The initiative was unveiled under Konga Jobs (KJ), a youth empowerment and job creation scheme of the Konga Group.

Specifically, the partnership will see Konga deploy its world-class assets, huge resources and cutting-edge technology backbone, while also placing its growing list of thriving subsidiaries across multiple verticals at the disposal of Nigerian youths who are desirous of an opportunity to earn a meaningful living and create wealth.

Konga says the scheme is targeted at the employed, unemployed and under-employed Nigerian youths across board.

Present during the signing ceremony was the Minister, Hon. Sunday Dare; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr. Nebeolisa Anako; Chairman, Konga Group, Leo Stan Ekeh; Co-CEO, Konga Group, Nick Imudia; VP, KongaPay, Isa Aliyushata, as well as other Management staff of Konga and senior officials of the Ministry.

‘‘We at the Ministry of Youths and Sports are of the view that public-private partnerships remain the way forward when it comes to the onerous task of creating opportunities for our youths. The plan is to have at least one Konga agent in every kindred in Nigeria. But it is pertinent to state that we are also extending our reach across Africa in line with our expansion plans as our target by 2025 is to create jobs for over 500,000 Nigerian youths and over 500,000 for other African youths.

The event, which was held within the Ministry’s conference room at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, also witnessed a tour of the massive facilities within the premises.
