IHS committed N2.5 billion for infrastructure and community support, MTN provided N1.45 billion for training and devices plus N1.5 billion in data, while Airtel pledged N1 billion to support the NextGen initiative.

According to the ministry, the programme has already unlocked more than 15,000 jobs, with beneficiaries earning an average of N250,000 per month. Over N400 million in prizes has also been awarded, while the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme is helping graduates navigate the job market.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by SGF George Akume, said the programme reflects his administration’s commitment to expanding digital opportunity nationwide. He noted that over 1.8 million Nigerians applied, and the first two cohorts—300,000 participants—represent a significant step toward the four-year target.

Launched in 2023, the 3MTT programme aims to train three million Nigerians in software development, artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity and other digital skills by 2027. The government hopes the initiative will help create two million digital jobs by 2025.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched its flagship Digital Literacy for All Initiative (DL4ALL) across the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The nationwide rollout follows a successful pilot phase in 12 states, where 152,790 Nigerians received digital training. The agency has now set its sights on a broader goal — to equip 70% of Nigerians with essential digital skills by 2027 and achieve 95% digital literacy by 2030.

Huawei Technologies has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation initiatives through its innovative programs, including the DigiTruck initiative.

The company made this commitment during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Huawei’s Research Centre in Beijing, China, where key discussions on enhancing digital literacy and talent development in Nigeria took place.

During the meeting, Mr. Liang Hua, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Huawei, commended President Tinubu for recognizing digital technology as a critical driver of economic growth.

“This is very encouraging for us,” Liang stated.

“Huawei is fully prepared to offer its ICT expertise and become a reliable partner of the Nigerian government to support the country in achieving its policy objectives and furthering its digital, intelligent, and low-carbon development.”

He further elaborated that the DigiTruck initiative, a mobile ICT classroom launched by Huawei, would complement Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in training 3 million technical talents (3MTT).

“It will equip the country’s young population with the skills necessary for present and future economic opportunities,” Liang added.

The DigiTruck is designed to enhance digital literacy in underserved communities by providing mobile classrooms equipped with advanced technology, including computers, internet connectivity, and tailored educational materials.

Huawei plans to deploy the DigiTruck across 10 Nigerian states annually, aiming to train at least 3,000 students each year.

Mr. Chris Lu, CEO of Huawei Nigeria, also highlighted the company’s support for Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme (NATEP).

“In the future, we hope to continuously develop the Network Operations Center (NOC) and expand its capacity so that it can meet the requirements of more African markets, thus facilitating more Nigerian technology talents in serving overseas markets,” Lu said.

During the tour of Huawei’s Research Centre, President Tinubu and his delegation were introduced to Huawei’s latest innovations in e-government, smart education, smart grid, and solar power—technologies that have the potential to significantly enhance public services, digital governance, and Nigeria’s inclusive development agenda.

Additionally, Huawei announced plans to establish a joint photovoltaic (PV) test lab with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to advance the country’s digital and low-carbon development goals.

The destruction of the park has been met with widespread dismay. Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, voiced his sorrow, stating, “Sad to learn that our Digital Innovation Park in Kano to support our technical talent accelerator (3MTT) has been set ablaze and looted by protesters.” His statement echoed the sentiments of many who recognized the park as a lost opportunity for countless young Nigerians.
