Social media platform X has begun rolling out automatic translation for posts and a new AI-powered image editing feature as part of efforts to enhance user experience.
The company’s head of product, Nikita Bier, announced that the translation feature is being deployed globally. Users can disable automatic translation for specific languages through the settings menu on translated posts.
The update is powered by Grok, an AI model developed by xAI, and is designed to make content more accessible to a global audience. Similar machine translation features have been introduced by other platforms, including Reddit.
In addition, X is introducing a new photo editor for its iOS application, featuring drawing tools, text overlays and a blur function that allows users to hide sensitive information such as faces or financial details.
The platform is also enabling users to edit images using natural language prompts through Grok. For example, users can request stylistic changes such as transforming a photo into a painting.
The company said the feature will be expanded to Android devices in the near future.
The rollout follows earlier controversies involving AI-generated content. Elon Musk faced criticism earlier this year over misuse of AI tools for generating manipulated images without consent, prompting restrictions on some features.
It remains unclear whether the new image editing capabilities will be limited to paid users.
