YouTube has announced new measures to clamp down on “mass-produced,” “repetitive,” and low-effort AI-generated videos that offer minimal educational or entertainment value, as it updates its Partner Program monetization policies.
Effective July 15, 2025, the platform’s existing “repetitive content” clause will be replaced with “inauthentic content,” a term that better describes videos created at scale using automation or generative AI without meaningful human input.
The move comes amid a surge in AI-driven content that floods the platform with videos made solely to maximize ad revenue rather than provide genuine value to viewers.
Under the revised rules, creators producing reused or low-effort AI content risk demonetization, though YouTube clarified that formats such as commentary, compilations, and reaction videos will remain eligible if they add significant original input or transformation.
YouTube also reiterated that AI tools are allowed when used to assist creation—not fully replace it—and that creators must disclose when content has been realistically altered or generated synthetically.
The update is part of YouTube’s wider effort to ensure its monetization model continues to reward authentic, quality creators while curbing the spread of spammy, auto-generated videos.
