Anthropic has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in the United States, positioning itself ahead of rival OpenAI in the race to reach public markets.
The artificial intelligence company announced the filing on Monday but did not disclose the size, valuation or timing of the proposed offering.
The move is expected to be closely watched by investors as it could become one of the most significant AI-related stock market debuts to date. Industry observers view the offering as a major test of public market appetite for artificial intelligence companies, whose private valuations have surged amid the global AI boom.
Anthropic, the developer of the Claude family of AI models and coding assistant Claude Code, has emerged as one of the leading competitors in the rapidly expanding AI sector. The company has attracted substantial investment as businesses increasingly adopt generative AI technologies.
Analysts say filing ahead of OpenAI could give Anthropic an early advantage in shaping investor perceptions of how frontier AI companies should be valued in public markets. However, it also means Anthropic will be the first to expose its financial performance and business model to detailed public scrutiny.
The filing comes amid intensifying competition among AI firms as they race to secure investment, computing resources and market share in one of the technology industry’s fastest-growing sectors.
