FG Collaborate with UK Foundation to launch ‘Code Clubs’ across Nigeria

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, has teamed up with the UK-based Raspberry Pi Foundation, a computing education charity, to introduce ‘Code Clubs’ across Nigeria. Tailored for students aged 7 to 17, these extracurricular programming clubs aim to cultivate a generation of digitally literate and innovative young minds in Nigeria.

Initially launching in 17 knowledge exchange centers, the clubs will later expand to various locations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The Ministry envisions exposing young participants to coding and digital technology, fostering creative problem-solving in their daily lives.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized the importance of creating a knowledge pipeline represented by these young minds, aligning with the goal to position Nigeria as a hub for technical knowledge in the global market.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation will play a crucial role by providing toolkits, support, and guidelines for educators and learners.

The Ministry will facilitate the establishment and operation of Code Clubs nationwide through a partnership model involving individuals, educational institutions, and organizations passionate about advancing computing education.

CEO of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Philip Colligan, expressed excitement about inspiring the next generation of digital makers through Code Clubs, providing young people the chance to explore creativity with computers and digital technologies.

The learning paths for Code Club partners will encompass a range of coding and technology subjects, including Introduction to Coding, Basic Concepts, Game Development, Web Development, Programming Languages, Algorithms and Problem Solving, Robotics and Electronics, and Project-Based Learning.

This partnership represents a forward-thinking initiative to prepare Nigeria’s younger generation for a digitally advanced future.
