DuckDuckGo has introduced new browser extensions that allow users to make its AI-free search experience the default option, as growing numbers of internet users look for alternatives to AI-generated search results.
The extensions, currently available on Chrome and Firefox, direct users to DuckDuckGo’s no-AI search page, where search results exclude AI-generated answers, chatbot prompts and significantly reduce AI-created images.
The rollout comes as debate over artificial intelligence in search intensifies following recent changes by Google that place AI-generated overviews more prominently at the top of search results.
DuckDuckGo said traffic to its AI-free search page has risen sharply in recent weeks, with web visits climbing and app downloads increasing as more users seek a more traditional search experience.
The company said the extensions are intended to help users maintain a consistent AI-free browsing experience. DuckDuckGo added that it plans to expand similar controls to its Privacy Essentials browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera.
Despite the launch, DuckDuckGo said it is not opposed to artificial intelligence and continues to offer AI chatbot features and subscription-based AI services alongside its privacy-focused search products.
