Spotify will begin introducing “AI Persona” badges on selected artist profiles from mid-September to help listeners distinguish between human artists and AI-generated personas.
The music streaming platform announced on Tuesday that the labels are intended to improve transparency as AI-generated music continues to grow in popularity.
The badges will appear on artist profile banners, About sections, search results and playlist track listings.
Artists will be able to voluntarily disclose that their profiles represent AI personas through Spotify for Artists beginning immediately.
Spotify also said it will independently review artist profiles featuring photorealistic AI-generated identities and may require creators to disclose their AI status or appeal the classification.
To further improve transparency, Spotify said AI Persona accounts will be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default unless users intentionally follow those profiles.
The company noted that the badge identifies whether the artist’s public identity is AI-generated rather than indicating how the music itself was created.
